Inspirations: movies like “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and “Signs”, crop circles, burnt paint.
The idea of making a table inspired by the extraterrestrial quests came up much earlier, but only when I saw the effects of burning the green layer of paint on previously applied black one, we understood that this was the time. The choice of colours was obvious to us: satin black, a bit matte black makes you think about the night, when the spaceships may come. Intensive bright verde green is so bright almost unnatural, so we picked it as it’s full of energy.
The base of this table is an industrial 800x600mm palette. It’s recycled and we think it was hit from the side, as it’s a bit crooked. We used this while matching the glass top to make it look even more distorted and unfamiliar.
On the top there’s a contour inspired by the photos of crop circles found around the world. We are not entirely sure what this symbol means, but we hope not only extraterrestrial guests won’t turn down your invitation for coffee seeing this piece of furniture. In many spots we burnt the paint or damaged it mechanically. As after most abductions people remain with only faint memories we decided to make this table look a bit older using the steel brush to remove the paint here and there.
Still we believe your guests will surely remember this table. The intensive, verde green is not only on the top, but also on the legs, in the holes we made to make an impression of alien symbols from crop circles. The legs itself are a bit angeled, it’s not obvious, but leaves a bit distorted image of this whole table. There’s a tension in it, like during the meeting with something unusual and amazing.
Under the table there’s a jute netting allows you to store your favourite magazines. The rubbers wheels with brakes allow you to move the table easily, soft material won’t damage even wooden floors.
The wood is recycled pallet. Glass was made on demand. All the paints are allowed by EU EN71-3 agreement to be used to paint even toys - they’re completely safe for health and the environment. No materials harmful for the animals or environment were used on this project.
